Clare Rose, Inc. Completes Largest Rooftop Solar Installation On Long Island
1.56 Megawatt Solar Installation Will Generate 90% of the Beverage Distributor’s Power
East Yaphank, NY (December 2, 2015) Clare Rose, Inc, a third-generation run beverage distributor, along with EnterSolar, a leading New York City-based provider of solar solutions to commercial enterprises and PSEG Long Island, the electric utility for Long Island and the Rockaways, today celebrated the completion of a 1.56 Megawatt rooftop solar system at their East Yaphank headquarters. The system is the largest rooftop solar installation on Long Island, and among the largest in all of New York State. The Clare Rose rooftop solar installation is also the largest privately-owned system in PSEG Long Island’s territory. Elected officials, PSEG Long Island executives, community leaders and employees gathered for a ribbon cutting to commemorate this significant project for Clare Rose and the Long Island community.
The 1,561 kilowatt solar system will almost entirely reduce Clare Rose’s dependence on the grid, generating, on an annual basis, almost 90% of the total electricity needs of the 269,000 ft2 facility. Going solar will provide significant environmental benefits to Clare Rose and its Long Island community, including the avoidance of almost 2.5 million lbs of CO2. The energy the system will generate annually is enough to power over 175 typical homes for a year, and is the equivalent of saving 144,000 gallons of gas per year.
The state-of-the-art installation is comprised of over 5,000 individual solar modules and utilizes cutting edge technologies such as roof-mounted 3-phase string-level inverters, a commercial weather station, and real-time cloud-based data monitoring systems. EnterSolar worked with Clare Rose from end to end on the project including financial structuring, incentive administration, design & engineering, installation and project management.
In addition to the substantial environmental benefits, the solar system will provide significant financial benefits to Clare Rose. The company will now generate its own clean electricity onsite at an effective economic cost substantially below available retail electricity rates. The installation was supported by PSEG Long Island’s Expected Performance Based Buy?down (EPBB) incentive program which seeks to expand the deployment of distributed solar generation systems throughout Long Island.
The solar power installation, one of the largest rooftop solar projects in New York State, is only the company's latest major investment toward sustainable operations. “This is one of our most important green projects to date,” said Sean Rose, CEO of Clare Rose. “Renewable power is crucial to our energy future and we feel it's important that responsible corporations invest in these technologies today.”
In addition to being one of the few distributors in the state to operate its own state-of-the-art recycling facility, Clare Rose also achieved Silver LEED Certification in 2011 with the construction of their new facility. The East Yaphank headquarters and facility incorporates a number elements of sustainable design including on-site wastewater processing, low-flow and locally-sourced materials.
“It is gratifying to work with a company that is already doing its part as a corporate citizen,” said Paul Ahern, president, EnterSolar. “In addition to providing Long Island residents with the beverages that fuel barbeques, celebrations, friends and families year round, Clare Rose is doing its part to use sustainable resources to enable those same celebrations for generations ahead. We were delighted to help them fulfill their vision of going solar.”
“PSEG Long Island is committed to working with our community and local businesses to help improve their energy usage and save on their overall costs,” said Mike Voltz, PSEG Long Island’s director of energy efficiency and renewables. “We congratulate the Clare Rose business and family for their dedication to energy efficiency and the work they have done to create a cleaner and greener environment for everyone.”
“This project enables us to achieve our desire to go green” added Rose. “This installation doesn't just benefit our company—it benefits the entire Long Island community by reducing local pollution and taking corporate dollars away from fossil fuels. The significant reduction in energy costs allows us to invest in better ways to serve our customers. Our roots are on Long Island, and we are here to support our friends and neighbors.”
