Long Island-Based Food Distributor Offsets Nearly a Third of the On-Site Electricity Usage through Rooftop Solar System
J. Kings Food Service Goes Solar
Founded in 1974, J. Kings has been delivering high quality food products across New York State. They partnered with EnterSolar to install a 771 kW rooftop system at their distribution center in Holtsville, NY.
Solar Photovoltaic System Specifications
The project is made up of 1,292 individual modules and is expected to produce an estimated 941,500 kWh of clean energy for the distribution center a year. Their state-of-the-art 125,000 sq ft facility operates 24/7 and includes five climate-controlled produce rooms and refrigerated receiving docks. The clean energy generated by the system will help offset nearly a third of the facility’s on-site electricity consumption and make their operations more sustainable.
The system’s environmental benefits are equivalent to saving 64,786 gallons of gasoline or planting 544 acres of U.S. forests a year. The solar energy produced will allow J. Kings to avoid over 1,266,694 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions a year.
Significant Financial Returns
This project utilizes the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) NY-Sun Competitive PV Program, which provides financial incentives to businesses that install solar energy systems.
EnterSolar’s expertise in optimizing system design, combined with the available state and federal incentives, yielded J. Kings a rapid payback period and an attractive long-term internal rate of return.
