Allied Printing Services, Inc. Goes Solar

Allied Printing Services Inc. is a third-generation family-owned business located in Manchester, Connecticut. The company is one of the largest privately-held commercial print operations in the Northeast. Consistent with Allied Printing’s commitment to the environment, the company partnered with EnterSolar to install a 1,400 kW roof top solar photovoltaic system, which is one of the largest arrays of solar photovoltaic panels in the state of Connecticut.

Solar Photovoltaic System Specifications and Environmental Benefits

The Allied Printing solar photovoltaic system has a total capacity of 1,400 kW DC, which is comprised of 4,591 panels atop Allied’s 275,000-square-foot facility. The system is projected to produce about 1,530,000 kWh of electricity annually, which is roughly 20% of Allied’s total electrical usage. The environmental benefit of the system is equivalent to powering 145 homes for a year, or planting 27,000 acres of trees. Allied Printing’s use of solar power will also result in the avoidance of about 1,116,000 pounds of
CO2 per year.

Significant Financial Returns through Solar

Allied Printing owns the system and the project utilizes the Connecticut Zero Emissions Renewable Energy Credit (ZREC) program. The ZREC 15-year contract income will provide Allied with a predicable long-term incremental cash flow stream. Additionally, the available federal energy incentives made going solar a sound corporate capital investment for them.
