EnterSolar, a leading provider of commercial solar systems to corporate customers, today announced the completion of a 325.5 kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic (PV) system installed atop Mercantile Development, Inc.'s (MDI) production headquarters in Shelton, CT. Mercantile Development, Inc, a leading manufacturer of disposable wipers, has exhibited an environmentally conscience product through their manufacturing of wipers from recycled textiles.
"Mercantile Development is excited to strengthen our corporate sustainability commitment with the addition of our new solar system," commented Ken Keefe, Chief Financial Officer of MDI. "In addition to the environmental benefits associated with the system, Connecticut's ZREC program makes going solar a sound corporate capital investment."
The top of the line PV system consists of 1,300+ solar panels, a central inverter, and a string-level data acquisition system. The solar energy system is anticipated to produce over 400,000 kilowatt hours per year, which is roughly equivalent to powering 50 average sized homes, or removing 55 autos from service, or saving over 32,690 gallons of gasoline each year.
EnterSolar developed the project from their New York City and Hartford offices. "We are excited to have partnered with MDI on this important solar project," said Paul Ahern, President of EnterSolar. "A long-term revenue contract through the Connecticut ZREC program, coupled with the available federal incentives, made smart business sense for MDI."
Installation services were provided by New Generation Energy and Environment.
