Connecticut Distributors Inc. (CDI) Goes Solar

Founded in 1933, CDI is one of Connecticut’s largest wine and spirits distributors. Their facilities store 4,600 different wine and spirit products, and they deliver around 2.5 million cases a year to over 3,700 accounts. Looking for ways to save money and become more sustainable, they partnered with EnterSolar to develop a rooftop solar photovoltaic system at their distribution warehouse in Stratford, CT.

Solar Photovoltaic System Specifications & Environmental Benefits

CDI’s solar photovoltaic system is made up of 1,884 individual photovoltaic panels and has a total capacity of 630 kW DC. The facility operates 24/7, and the rooftop system offsets approximately 85% of their annual onsite electrical consumption.
The environmental benefits of the system are equivalent to taking 116 cars off the roads or saving over 61,000 gallons of gasoline a year. CDI’s use of solar power will result in the avoidance of 550 metric tons of carbon dioxide. The reduction of their carbon emissions is equivalent to planting 14,250 trees.

Significant Financial Returns through Solar

CDI benefited from the Connecticut Zero Emission Renewable Energy Credit (ZREC) program. The ZREC program provides solar system owners with a 15-year contractual revenue source that pays them a fixed price for the energy produced. EnterSolar’s expertise in optimizing system design and solar project financing made going solar a sound capital investment for CDI.
