Krinos Goes Solar

Krinos Foods, Inc. is the largest importer, distributor and manufacturer of Greek specialty foods in North America. Krinos has plants in New York, Chicago, Montreal, Toronto, and partnered with EnterSolar to install a solar photovoltaic system at its new corporate headquarters in the Bronx, New York.

Solar Photovoltaic System Specifications & Environmental Benefits

The Krinos Foods solar photovoltaic system has a total capacity of 566 kWDC, which is comprised of over 1,700 325W panels atop their 90,000-square-foot facility. The system uses SolarEdge power optimizers, which increase the energy output from photovoltaic systems and allow for flexibility when designing module string size, tilt and orientation. With an expected annual production of over 680,000 kWh, the system offsets nearly 70% of Krinos’ electrical load.

The environmental benefits of the system are equivalent to powering 65 homes for a year or planting 12,087 acres of trees. Krinos Foods’ use of solar power will also result in the avoidance of about 921,540 pounds of CO2 per year.

Significant Financial Returns through Solar

Krinos Foods’ system is one of the largest solar arrays in New York City. The project is part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s NY-Sun initiative, a commitment to improving efficiency, affordability and reliability of energy systems. EnterSolar’s expertise in optimizing system design, combined with the available federal and New York State Solar incentives yields Krinos Foods a rapid payback period and an attractive, long-term internal rate of return.
