Pratt Industries Goes Solar

Pratt Industries is America’s 5th largest corrugated packaging company and operates recycling plants and paper mills throughout the country. Pratt partnered with EnterSolar to install a rooftop solar photovoltaic system at its Staten Island facility. This system aligns with Pratt’s commitment to sustainability, which has been a cornerstone of the company’s culture since its inception.

Solar Photovoltaic System Specifications

Pratt Industries’ solar photovoltaic system has a total capacity of 1,405.3 kW DC, which is comprised of 5,405 Hanwha 260W panels atop Pratt’s 280,000 sf facility. The system has an expected annual production of 1,612,182 kWh. The environmental benefit of the system is equivalent to powering 232 homes for a year or removing 182 cars from the road per year. Pratt’s use of solar power will also result in the avoidance of about 2,115,183 pounds of CO2 per year.

Incentive Provided by NYSERDA’s Sun Initiative

Pratt Industries’ system is one of the largest solar arrays in New York City. The project is part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s NY-Sun initiative, a commitment to improving efficiency, affordability, and reliability of energy systems. The initiative aims to develop a sustainable, self-sufficient solar industry in New York, which will support a multitude of solar developments. EnterSolar’s expertise in optimizing system design, combined with the available Federal and New York State Solar Incentives will yield Pratt a rapid payback period and an attractive long-term internal rate of return.
