Stewart’s Shops Goes Solar

Stewart’s Shops, an employee and family-owned convenience store chain based in Saratoga Springs, NY, partnered with EnterSolar to install a 601 kilowatt (kW) roof-mounted commercial solar photovoltaic system on its 226,000 sf manufacturing and distribution facility in Greenfield Center, NY. Stewart’s, founded in 1945, is known for offering milk, ice cream, coffee, food to go, gasoline, and other convenience items.

Solar Photovoltaic System Specifications

The Stewart’s Shops solar photovoltaic system has a total capacity of 601 kW DC, comprising of 2,405 individual 245 watt modules, one commercial central inverter, a ballasted nonpenetrating mounting solution, and a string-level data monitoring system with an integrated commercial weather station.

The system is expected to produce 620,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, which is projected to save nearly $40,000 in electricity costs every year and reduce Stewart’s Shop’s carbon footprint by over 370 metric tons of CO2. This is equivalent to removing 80 passenger vehicles from the road each year. This aligns with Stewart’s commitment to sustainability, including an extensive recycling program.

Significant Environmental and Financial Returns

This project takes advantage of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s (NYSERDA) NY Sun Competitive PV program, which provides incentives to businesses that install solar energy systems.

EnterSolar’s expertise in optimizing system design, combined with the available Federal and New York State Solar Incentives, along with the MACRS depreciation treatment, yielded Stewart’s Shops’ a rapid payback period and an attractive long-term internal rate of return.
